Instana Integration Guide

Instana is building next-generation monitoring for next-generation applications. Instana applies a Real-time Knowledge Engine to derive the health of your applications in highly dynamic modern architectures. Stan, your virtual devops assistant, helps you with suggestions on how to fix problems and optimize your infrastructure and software.

In PagerDuty

    1. From the Configuration menu, select Services. 
    2. On your Services page:

      If you are creating a new service for your integration, click +Add New Service.

      If you are adding your integration to an existing service, click the name of the service you want to add the integration to. Then click the Integrations tab and click the +New Integration button.

    4. Select your app from the Integration Type menu and enter an Integration Name.

      If you are creating a new service for your integration, in General Settings, enter a Name for your new service. Then, in Incident Settings, specify the Escalation Policy, Notification Urgency, and Incident Behavior for your new service.

    5. Click the Add Service or Add Integration button to save your new integration. You will be redirected to the Integrations page for your service.
    6. Copy the Integration Key for your new integration. RS_API_pd_3

    In Instana

    1. Navigate to the User Management Portal by clicking on the profile icon followed by Management Portal.

    3. Navigate to the Integrations tab.

    5. Select when you want Instana to trigger an incident in PagerDuty and paste the Integration Key you copied in step 3 earlier into the Service Integration Key field. Then, click Save.

    7. At this point you are all done. To test your integration, you’d need to have an issue within Instana, which will trigger an incident within PagerDuty.


    Will the PagerDuty incident resolve when the Instana issue resolves?

    Yes, the PagerDuty incident will automatically resolve as soon as the issue is resolved within Instana.
