PagerDuty Is for People (and Now Listed on the New York Stock Exchange)

by Jennifer Tejada April 11, 2019 | 5 min read

Today is a very proud day for PagerDuty and PagerDuty fans around the world—we rang the bell at the New York Stock Exchange to begin our first day of trading as a public company. Today, as a community, we celebrate the collective success of our users and customers and an incredible milestone few companies achieve. While our IPO is a huge milestone, our journey together is just beginning. I am honored to lead our business and our amazing team, along with the best customers in the world, on the next leg of our adventure. While being public will bring a few changes, our dedication to people, customer success, innovation, inclusive leadership, and revolutionizing digital operations management remains stronger than ever.

PagerDuty was founded by three innovative software developers who knew what it was like to manage “always on” cloud services. They made a bet that the early practice and culture of DevOps, which encourages collaboration between development and operations, would become strategic for every company. Fast forward 10 years to today and every business is becoming a software company, leveraging DevOps to facilitate digital transformation. That initial idea of automating on-call engineering and supporting DevOps with an easy-to-use app that integrates to the most critical applications out-of-the-box has evolved into PagerDuty helping companies of all sizes collaboratively manage real-time work, ensuring that their digital services are always on and able to deliver a great user experience.

PagerDuty Is for People

PagerDuty always has been and will continue to be designed to solve problems for our users and, ultimately, make their lives better. By leveraging machine learning, automation, and orchestration, all types of companies and people can deliver engaging digital brand experiences to their customers every time while saving valuable time as well. We’ve demonstrated this by helping companies like GE, Vodafone, Pinterest, and Slack deliver a better user experience and ensuring mission-driven organizations like Polaris are always on because people’s lives depend on them every second of the day.

As PagerDuty goes public today, I am full of gratitude and appreciation for all the people who have helped guide us to this milestone. Days like today remind us that customers and users like you bet on us to help you be successful. Our business and success are built on your success. We continue to grow and innovate, thanks to the support, commitment, and passion of our people—our customers, partners, investors, board members, Dutonians, and community. You all rock! Thank you for placing your trust in us. Our commitment to you remains steadfast.

PagerDuty Is for Customers

Over the last few years, we’ve evolved from an on-call automation solution for developers to a modern incident management solution for DevOps, IT, Support, and Security, and now, a real-time operations platform focused on digital operations across businesses. You have shared your challenges, influenced our roadmap, and pushed us to be a highly resilient platform. Thank you for holding us to high standards and being amazing partners along the way.

When you—our customers and users—win, we win. Your dedication to getting it right has helped continually improve and strengthen our offerings over time—from a single product to a robust, multi-product, enterprise-grade platform that remains easy to use. With your input into every iteration, we’ve innovated to deliver reliable products you tell us you love and trust.

At PagerDuty, today is just another step toward achieving our mission of elevating work to the outcomes that matter by enabling us to scale our team and accelerate our pace of innovation to bring you more products like Event Intelligence, PagerDuty Analytics, and PagerDuty Visibility. In addition, going public broadens our reach by helping to introduce PagerDuty to more developers and employees across innovative small companies and global leaders around the world. I am thrilled a number of customers and users were able to join us on the floor at the NYSE to ring in our first day of trading.

PagerDuty Is for Dutonians

Thank you to all of our past and present employees for your hard work, grit, and customer focus! I am so fortunate to lead this group of nearly 600 awesome Dutonians—you’re truly the best crew a CEO could ask for. I always tell anyone who will listen that PagerDuty is an incredibly special place and it’s the Dutonians who make it special.

We have built a unique, inclusive culture that honors diversity and belonging, and encourages bringing your whole self to work. We put people first. We hire and attract the most talented, diverse group of individuals of all ages, cultures, and backgrounds. Everyone is accepted at PagerDuty and given equitable opportunities to succeed through leadership opportunities, formal training and development, and having a voice. When our Dutonians succeed, you make our customers and users more successful.

PagerDuty Is for Communities

Thank you to our nonprofit customers and communities for all the amazing work that you do. Your incredible, heartening, and meaningful missions matter and we’re proud to support them. It’s humbling to see how PagerDuty can improve the impact of mission-driven organizations by empowering teams to take real-time action when changing the world.

Through PagerDuty.org, we took the 1% Pledge in 2017 to give back to our community, investing 1% each of equity, product, and time to drive positive social impact. We already support hundreds of organizations working to improve livelihoods globally—organizations like SightLife, Fast Forward, Code2040, Hackbright Academy, Girls in Tech, and HITEC. We’re excited that today’s milestone helps us expand our social impact efforts to support more mission-driven organizations.
PagerDuty is (and will always be) for People. Thank you for believing in us.
