Unhappy With Your Current Monitoring and Alerting Methods? Most of You Are.

Our team had a great time at AWS re:Invent last week. And we enjoyed meeting everyone who stopped by our booth.

This year we teamed up with StackDriver and collected responses for a joint survey to learn more about your IT environments. As a bonus, we rewarded anyone who took our survey with a poker chip to test their luck in the casino.

Below are a few of the results from the survey that stood out to us:

How Satisfied Are You With Your Current Monitoring Tools?

Survey_02

We learned that 64% of you are not satisfied with your current monitoring tools. Having seen the noise and alert fatigue that can be created by using several monitoring tools we understand your pain!

How Satisfied Are You With Your Current Alerting Tools?

Survey_01

Only 31% of AWS re:Invent attendees reported being happy with their current alerting methods. We also learned that centralized alerts methods don’t have a lot of penetration, even within the technical savvy crowd at AWS re:Invent.

Which is why we asked:

How Are You Notified of an Outage in Your System?

Survey_03

Only 34% of attendees of AWS re:Invent reported that they using a centralized alerting tool (such as PagerDuty). Everyone else is  still relying on homegrown SMS gateways, email-only notification from their monitoring service or even waiting to fix incidents until after a customer complains.

It was a fantastic experience hosting this survey with Stackdriver. We are excited to continue to work on relieving the pain that you are experiencing with your IT environments. Lastly, we’d like to offer a special thanks to everyone who stopped by our booth and took this survey!
