4 Modernizing Incident Response Talks To Watch from Summit 2021

Last week I shared a few automation sessions that you should check out from PagerDuty Summit 2021, and I am back with a recommendation for four incident response sessions.

One of the benefits of a virtual event is that all of the sessions are available for you on demand. Check out our Summit page so you can take advantage of all of the sessions, including the keynote, “DigitalOps Now” with our CEO Jennifer Tejada and CPO Sean Scott!

So what’s new in incident response according to our presenters during Summit?

Customer Talks You Don’t Want to Miss

Director of Platform Visibility and Command Center Monitoring Marcelo LaRosa from Hudson’s Bay Company joined us for his session, “The Power of PagerDuty in Alert Noise Suppression.” He focused on how keeping your alerts clean and meaningful will give your teams more time to focus on planned work and alerts that are important.

Marcelo has some advice for setting your alert priorities and naming standards to help your teams during incidents. His team has a regular cadence for monitoring the monitors and continuously improving the entire environment. This method reduced the number of alerts their teams received by thousands.

Vodafone’s Head of Systems Engineering, David Jambor returned to Summit to give us an update on “Immutable Telemetry 2.0.” Vodafone is undergoing a transition from being a “telco” to a “techco” using DevOps and SRE methods.

Immutable telemetry helps Vodafone build the infrastructure for any microservice to be run in production without human intervention. When their teams experience an issue, Vodafone makes sure customer impact is minimized through automation, service ownership, and pipelines. Tune into this session to learn about Vodafone’s best practices and the lessons the team has learned over the past year.

PagerDuty Sessions to Check Out

Plus, we shared sessions focused on making your PagerDuty practices stronger.

Check out this session, “Strengthen Stakeholder Communications with PagerDuty Business Response.” PagerDuty Senior Product Manager Katie Reiter will walk you through the status dashboard, status update notifications, business service subscriptions, stakeholder licenses, and some tips and tricks for automation.

If you’re looking for more information about integrating other parts of your ecosystem with PagerDuty, this session, “Unified Integrations for All,” from Senior Product Manager Divya Balasubramanian will give you an in-depth look at some of the latest improvements in the PagerDuty platform for managing your integrations.

And More

We also shared plenty of PagerDuty updates and new features!

  • Incident Context has been added to MS Teams, delivering clear, actionable data about incidents directly within MS Teams to help triage faster and coordinate an effective response. This feature brings change events, dependencies, related incidents, and past incidents to ChatOps so responders have critical context where they’re working. Learn more on the Teams Integration Page.
  • If Slack is more your speed, the new Insights Previews allows Slack users to share insights through Slack on an ad hoc basis to improve collaboration and shareability. It adds the ability to drop links to specific filtered views from insight tables and have summarized views in Slack for immediate value. Get started with the integration guide or take a look at the demos on the integration page to learn more.
  • New Service Profiles are coming to all of your services in August. Get all the details on what the new interface looks like and how it can help your responders and stakeholders.
